The ship's keel-laying ceremony (aka coin ceremony) was held on February 16, 2022. During the ceremony (attended by Paul Ludlow), under the first hull block were placed specially minted Barbados coins. The keel block had weight 570 tonnes, length 11,3 m (37 ft), width 42 m (138 ft) height 11,8 m (39 ft), and was lifted by an 800-ton gantry crane. In October, Arvia’s first cruise was rescheduled from December 9th to December 23rd (due to delayed delivery). The Transatlantic crossing (RepositionCruises.com) from Europe to the Caribbean (departure January 6, 2023) was from Southampton to Bridgetown Barbados (15-day), and to St John's Antigua (22-day). Alan Moorhouse looks at the main features of the new cruise ship Arvia, the latest ship from Meyer Werft to join the fleet of P&O Cruises. A staple of mega-cruise ships, a new mini-golf course will grace the top deck of Arvia, directly below Altitude Skywalk on Deck 19. We love the modern concept of Green & Co, with a focus on vegan, vegetarian and flexitarian dishes, offering food pairings, cocktails and striking sea views.

Given that there could be 1,000 children on board during the school holidays, there’s plenty for families to enjoy, from sports activities like archery, football and basketball to a splash pool. Children who are in nappies and not completely toilet-trained are only permitted to use the children’s water play area Splash Valley (on Deck 18) as well as the Panorama Pool. Also new to Arvia is the submarine-themed escape room-style experience called Mission Control. It's billed as an "underwater challenge" and decked out like a proper submarine which even moves and vibrates. Thanks to an LED screen displaying sea-life swimming past, it does a great job of simulating being in the depths of the ocean. There is a challenge (all participants are given a role to do to help problem-solve) but none of us were really sure what the challenge was.
